Company proxy servers/firewallsWhen a firewall/proxy server is present and the internal network does not provide external DNS resolution, you may experience problems with the java applets that the Interactive Investor Spread Betting website uses. If you are unable to access the Interactive Investor Spread Betting website at all, you may find that your IT department has blocking in place on their firewall/proxy server to prevent access to certain sites. You will need to get them to add the Interactive Investor Spread Betting website to their list of sites that are allowed to pass through the firewall/proxy server. If you are using Sun Microsystems Java you may need to add your
proxy information to the (Sun) Java Plug-in Control Panel, which can be
accessed through Windows Control Panel. The following link contains
detailed instructions from the Sun Java site: Personal firewallsThese are not an issue if they are properly configured. However, they can be set to block java applets, JavaScript and cookies, amongst other things, which will cause problems accessing the Interactive Investor Spread Betting website. If you are experiencing problems with the Interactive Investor Spread Betting website, please check the configuration of your firewall, including the built-in XP firewall. There are too many software/hardware firewalls for us to be able to advise on, but more assistance should be available from the firewall vendor's website. We do not suggest that you connect to the internet without some sort of firewall protection. Ad blocking softwareThere can be issues with ad-blocking software, which may block certain JavaScript functions. If you are experiencing problems, we suggest that you try disabling or bypassing any ad-blocking software to see if this resolves the problem. Bear in mind that if you restart your pc, it is likely that any disabled ad-blocking software will automatically start as Windows starts. Internet optimisersThese programs can cause problems as they often cache DNS records to the local pc (hosts file). Therefore, if we change the network address of a server your pc will still be pointing to the old network address, making the site inaccessible. They can also cache internet files within the program, which adds another step to clearing your internet cache. AOL browsersThere can be problems viewing the site through an AOL browser. We
suggest that you make the initial internet connection, if required,
through your AOL browser and then minimise it. You can then open an
Internet Explorer browser to view the Interactive Investor Spread
Betting website. Here is a link to the Sun Java website which gives
more information regarding problems with AOL browsers and how to
optimise your AOL browser settings: Please note:The advice offered in this help section is what we recommend in order for you to access the Interactive Investor Spread Betting website and to try and resolve any problems you may have accessing the website. The settings listed in the General Settings section are, in most cases, the default settings that are setup as standard. However, we cannot accept responsibility for any problems arising from any other sites that you enter with these settings. |
