These investments can limit risk by spreading your investment and
'pooling' your money with other investors to achieve a much wider
investment spread. This means you do not have all your eggs in one
basket. The simplicity of these products may also appeal as they
provide an alternative to much of the research which would be necessary
to own the diverse selection of shares and bonds directly. Unit Trusts
and OEICs are popular with investors seeking capital growth as well as
income. But remember that the value of Unit Trusts and OEICs, and the
income from them, can go down as well as up. They are designed as a
medium to long term investment vehicle.
